Joint Replacement

In addition to all private rooms, Twin Cities Hospital offers Joint Venture, a Certified Orthopedic Joint Replacement Program*. This program is designed with the patient in mind and consists of a preoperative educational class led by an Orthopedic Certified Nurse. The class allows the patient to prepare for and be knowledgeable of the care they will receive during their hospital stay. Better informed patients, who are active participants in their care, can enable better surgical outcomes for themselves. A multidisciplinary team of Physicians, Nurses, Physical Therapists, and Case Managers work together to ensure quality care throughout the patient's stay.

The Joint Venture Program actually begins before the replacement surgery takes place. After surgery is scheduled, individuals will be contacted by the Joint Venture Program Coordinator to schedule a preoperative educational class. The class gives an overview of what to expect before, during, and after surgery and also includes an introduction to the care team. Attendees receive educational materials about each specific joint replacement procedure and a physical therapist gets individuals started on exercises that are an integral part of the recovery process. Finally, a discharge planner will help individuals learn more about setting up for home recovery, the types of special equipment needed, and how to manage various other health problems. Attendees will be given an opportunity to ask any questions and hopefully ease anxieties related to their upcoming surgery.
